El Pomar Foundation

History and tradition don't always lead to innovation, but in the case of El Pomar Foundation these three words are intertwined. History means we've been around a long time--since 1937 when entrepreneur Spencer Penrose and his wife Julie established a legacy to serve as a valuable resource for the people of Colorado. Tradition means we do some things year in and year out. Grantmaking is one example. El Pomar Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations in the state of Colorado--and has been doing so since the Foundation was established. Some grantees have been funded on a regular basis since the days when the Penroses made grant decisions themselves. Innovation means the trustees of El Pomar are constantly looking for new ways to achieve the mission set forth by the Penroses-- to enhance, encourage and promote the current and future well-being of the people of Colorado. El Pomar's extensive programs are an example of innovation in action. The program details are all different, but together they support the same objectives of developing leaders and strengthening communities. Visit the website at: http://www.elpomar.org/

The Daniels Fund

The Daniels Fund, founded through the generous legacy of Bill Daniels, operates the Daniels Fund Grants Program and the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. The Daniels Fund Grants Program supports nonprofit organizations in our four-state region as well as national programs. Each year, approximately 70% of the Daniels Fund’s community investments are made through the Daniels Fund Grants Program in the following areas: Aging, Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, Amateur Sports, Disabilities, Early Childhood Education, K-12 Education Reform, Ethics and Integrity in Education, Homeless and Disadvantaged, and Youth Development. Each year, approximately 30% of the Daniels Fund’s allocations are made through the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program, which consists of the Daniels Scholarship and the Daniels Opportunity Scholarship. Daniels Scholarships are awarded in the spring to graduating high school seniors and are supplemental after other federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid and scholarships. Daniels Opportunity Scholarships are distributed to two and four-year colleges and universities in our four-state region so they may provide those funds to non-traditional students. In 2010, the Daniels Fund surpassed $377,343,453 in cumulative grants and scholarships awarded since 2000. In April 2010, the Daniels Fund named 257 new Daniels Scholars—deserving students with financial need who began attending colleges and universities across the United States this past fall. More than 2,000 Daniels Scholars have been named since the Daniels Fund was established in the year 2000. Visit the website at: http://www.danielsfund.org/
